There are several books on the market that discuss a variety of techniques
you can try at home to enhance conception of a specific gender. One that I
have recommended in the past is Boy or
Girl by Elizabeth Whelan. Another (much older) resource is The
Preconception Gender Diet by Langendoen & Proctor.
Since the sperm
determines the gender, most of these techniques encourage activities
that will promote viability of one type of sperm (X or Y) over the
other. They may include such things as changing your or your partner's
diet, specific douches, types of clothing to wear, and sexual
positions. In my practice, I have seen a wide range of success, about
60 to 80 percent.
There are some
infertility specialists who are willing to do sperm selection through a
technique of spinning the sperm. The sperm sort by weight and therefore
genetic material, and then inseminate with the separated sperm. There
is no guarantee that you will separate all of the sperm equally, so
success rate varies with this technique and it can be very
expensive.
