Question
Is it okay to be in a nail salon and get acrylic nails done while you are
pregnant? I am concerned about the smell of the chemicals the salons use
when doing acrylic nails and if inhaling them will harm the fetus.

Answer
I am unaware of any studies that have evaluated the effects of the
chemicals used in nail salons on the fetus. I usually recommend to my
patients that they consider foregoing acrylic nails during pregnancy if
they are concerned about potential ill effects.
You may have more
success than usual with natural nails since the hormones of pregnancy
often increase the strength of the nail.
