Question

Can I get pregnant when I'm having a period?
Answer

You can get pregnant when you are bleeding, though it would not truly be a menstrual period. Many women experience irregular bleeding that they mistake for a period, and conceive during intercourse at this time.

If you don't wish to become pregnant, it is always wise to use some method of contraception.
