I had a non-progressive first labor ending in a C-section. Could I
have a VBAC?

Question
I had a non-progressive first labor which ended in a C-section. I am now a
week before my due date. What are my odds of having a VBAC?

Answer
By a non-progressive first labor I assume you mean you did not dilate.
First of all, we must establish that about 30 percent of Cesarean births
are done on women not dilating past three to four centimeters. This phase
of labor, up to three centimeters, is called the latent phase. We believe
these women have never really gotten into labor and that Cesareans done in
this phase can be avoided by being patient and waiting for labor to
progress.
The fact that this happened does not decrease your chance of delivering
successfully this time. Many centers have a VBAC success rate of 60 to
70 percent. If you and your caregiver have decided to proceed to VBAC
this time, you have an excellent chance of success.
