Is safe to swim in the ocean while pregnant?

Question:
Is safe to swim in the ocean while pregnant?
Answer:
If you are an excellent swimmer, and if you stay close to shore, there should be no danger. Certified Nurse-Midwife Shirley Moore says, "If the ocean is safe for the general population to swim in it will be safe for a pregnant woman as long as she has not ruptured her water bag."

If you are caused to hold your breath for an extended period, there could be oxygen deprivation. Body surfing and any other activity that will put stress on your body, particularly your abdomen, are also out. If there are high waves, a strong undercurrent or any other risky situation, then you have to ask yourself if it is worth putting your baby's well-being at risk.
