Do you recommend a savings account or a money market account for my mad money?

Question:
Do you recommend a savings account or a money market account for my mad money. I have about 2000 in it.
Answer:

The money market is clearly the best and safest place for "mad" money. Everything has a negative, and the obvious one here is that the return, although guaranteed if in a bank, is likely to be less than with other investments. (If the money market is outside of a bank, the FDIC likely does not cover it.) However, if immediate access is important and the time frame is potentially short term, I would stick with the money market.

Good luck!

Carmen
